Did you know that elephants have the longest gestational period of any mammal? Depending if it’s an African or Asian elephant, they are typically pregnant on average for 18 to 22 months.
While I’m not an elephant, I can fully relate to the patience it takes to finally deliver something you’ve been carefully nurturing and growing for nearly two years. In my case, it’s my book, A Little Bit About a Lot of Things. For nearly 24 months, I’ve been dreaming, writing, re-writing, editing, doubting, scrapping, crying, wringing my hands, laughing, and praying all in an effort to get this book ready to enter the world.
And just 30 days from today, on February 16th, it will finally make its arrival…on my 49th birthday, to be exact.
Writing this book has been the greatest labor of love and I could not be more proud of the finished product.
A few friends graciously agreed to be advanced readers and so far, their feedback is overwhelmingly positive. I realize this could be akin to people telling you that your newborn baby is beautiful, even when we all know that not all newborn babies are beautiful.
But, I am choosing to trust their feedback and appreciate deeply how they’ve related to the book, how they’ve seen a piece of themselves in the stories, how they’ve laughed (a lot), and cried (a little), and how this book, in the words of my college roommate, “…has been like having you sitting next to me while reading it.”
Babies are a product of their parents, so it makes sense that this book baby is a product of me. So, as I hunker down for the final month before this baby arrives, I’d appreciate your prayers for all the pieces to fall into place, for it to be well received, and for it to be placed into the hands of people who need the laughter, honesty, and encouragement found within its pages.
And look for me in your inbox on February 16th—my birthday/book launch day—with details on how you can get your own copy of A Little Bit About a Lot of Things.
Speaking of things to be excited about, over at The Unknown Authors Club—the social community and publishing agency I helped co-found last year—we were thrilled to learn that we received a silver medal in the Inspirational category of the North American Book Awards for our first anthology: The Life of An Unknown Author.
This “little book that could” is continuing to make big waves. If you haven’t picked up a copy, I’d be honored if you did, and be sure to leave a review on Amazon.
In 2023, The Unknown Authors Club will be publishing more books! We have three books in the works and we are talking with a few additional authors about publishing their books this year.
If you have an idea for a book or a completed manuscript and you are looking for a publishing partner to help bring it to life, let us know. We would love to help!
Until next time,
Leslee
