Ladies and Gentlemen,
I’m starting a newsletter. Cue the applause.
After spending most of 2021 working on a soon-to-be-published memoir and launching a podcast, I realize I still have more words to say. My third grade teacher, Miss Henry, would not be surprised by this admission.
So, in an effort to get all my words out and to keep my family and friends (that’s you) informed of what’s going on and what’s coming up, I’ve started a newsletter. You’re welcome.
As a subscriber or potential subscriber, I feel it would only be right to give you a taste of what you can expect from this publication. So, as the sole author, here’s what I agree to provide you, the reader:
A Little Bit About a Lot of Things - That’s the name of this newsletter, in case you didn’t catch it, and it’s a phrase that perfectly describes the way my mind works. My mom has always called me a “Compendium of Useless Information” (it’s a compliment, trust me), and it comes from my ability to recall the most random of facts at the most random of times. Basically I’m a great phone-a-friend option should you ever make it on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.”
So, what does this have to do with a newsletter? I’ll be covering a wide variety of topics here at ALB (my newsletter, my abbreviation choice). Things like family, friendship, fun, faith, and how I’m kicking fear in the face. (I love a good alliteration.) Whatever I’m working on or whatever I’m pondering will likely end up here. You’ve been warned.
An Honest Look at My Life - I don’t know how else to say things other than to say them honestly. Stepping off a “safe career path” to follow the unpredictable life of a writer and podcaster has been one of the scariest things I’ve ever done. There have been many, many days over the last year when I’ve been ready to chuck it all, brush off my resume and get back on the corporate track. And I may still end up doing that, but for now, I’m here. Letting my heart spill through my fingers and onto this page/screen/whatever. My deepest hope in being true to myself here is that you might see a glimpse of yourself and recognize you aren’t alone. There’s always room for you at my table.
Fun - I don’t know how to write (or speak for that matter) without mixing humor into it. Yet another way my brain works. And sometimes I spontaneously bust out in a song to perfectly describe a moment, like I did recently at my son’s varsity soccer game. After seeing two yellow cards get issued, back to back, to our team, a hush settled over the parents who were watching in shock next to me in the stands. Meanwhile I responded to the tense moment by belting out, in my best Bon Jovi impression, “We’re going down….IN A BLAZE OF GLORY!!!” Thankfully I do have enough emotional intelligence to recognize that the blank stares I received indicated the parents weren’t going to join me for the sing-a-long.
Bottom line - This newsletter will be fun and will hopefully become a bright spot in your cluttered inbox.
So, there you have it, friends. That is just a little bit about why I’m starting a newsletter about a lot of things.
Cheers,
Leslee
